6 Southeast Florida golf getaways

PGA National’s Champion Course

South Florida. The sound of those two words immediately takes your mind to a warm climate with pristine beaches, crystal blue waters, and palm trees for days.

This destination has long been a famous getaway for golfers, especially those from the Northeast, as it was always easy to slide on over to I-95 and head South until you saw those beautiful golf courses seemingly everywhere.

If you’re getting the golf itch, here are six southern Florida spots we highly recommend visiting on your trip to the Sunshine State:

PGA National Resort & Spa

As the longtime home of the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour, PGA National Resort & Spa has long been on the radar of go-to destinations for those thinking of a trip to South Florida.  The team here is not resting on their laurels though, and they have continued to pour a ton of resources into revamping the golf and resort experience as we recently covered here for you.

To see why the Champion Course gets so much love from the best in the game, take a look at our exclusive drone footage of the course here.

JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa

From a drawing on a napkin all the way to the development of an entire city.  That’s how the city of Turnberry came to be all thanks to the vision of Don Soffer.  From a golf perspective, the crown jewel of the city of Aventura is the one and only JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa. With 36 holes of fantastic golf that includes the Soffer Course and the Miller Course, the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa will leave your golfing needs satisfied all while enjoying luxurious accommodations that are perfect for any type of golf trip, including a getaway with the family as the waterpark is incredible.

Trump National Doral Miami

Trump National Doral Miami erupted onto the golf travel scene in the 1960s, and it’s been a favorite of golfers looking to visit the greater Miami ever since.  The resort reached notoriety through its legendary Blue Monster Golf Course design that has played host to the best players in the world on numerous occasions, and the relatively recent renovations of The Red Tiger, The Golden Palm, and The Silver Fox courses have elevated the stay-and-play experience at Doral to a whole new level. The resort here is massive with over 600 well-appointed rooms, an exceptional spa, and a myriad of dining options making it a perfect fit for golf groups of all sizes.

The Boca Raton

A resort that has been in existence for nearly 100 years, The Boca Raton has been recently reimagined as the ownership group has severed ties with the Waldorf Astoria brand and is now under independent management.  When the resort originally opened in 1926 it did so under the Ritz-Carlton banner, so as you can imagine the property exudes first-class trimmings and a recently capital investment of $250 million into the first phase of their renovation showcases how much the team here wants to invest in a top-tier experience for resort guests and their members. Exclusive only to members and resort guests, the Club Course features an island green finishing hole as well as a Toptracer driving range to enjoy prior to your round to get you dialed in for your round with the latest technology in the game today.

The Breakers

Iconic.  That’s the only way to describe The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida as this legendary property has long been a sanctuary to those looking for the ultimate in luxury with a South Florida flair that can be felt immediately as you step through the door at The Breakers. With 36 holes of golf available with the Ocean Course and The Breakers Rees Jones Course, these courses are available only to members and resort guests and were each renovated by Rees Jones over the last few years with a focus on preservation and modernization for today’s game.  If you’re looking for that upscale experience in Southeast Florida, then The Breakers has to be in your consideration set.

The Biltmore

If you’re a fan of Donald Ross, then look no further than The Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida.  A $2.5 million dollar project to restored the course to the original grandeur of Ross’ original design as you’ll find a very enjoyable golf course that has a noticeable series of canals that run throughout the design adding an element of beauty and danger into your round. In addition to the great golf course, The Biltmore is certainly known for its iconic hotel that is nearing its centennial celebration as the old-world charm that features European design influences was built to be the centerpiece of George Merrick’s vision for the city of Coral Gables to be portrayed as an elegant and stately suburb. I’d say George knew what he was doing, as guests still marvel at this experience nearly 100 years after its original opening date.
