In Northeast Florida, which is also known as Florida’s First Coast, these changes have all been for the better when it comes to enhancing the experience for golfers who are looking to come to this region to enjoy some of the finest golf experiences around.
We’ve highlighted six of these recent changes for you to give you some insight into why this region may be just what the doctor ordered for your next golf getaway.

St. Johns Golf and Country Club undergoes major renovations
One of the best golf courses in the greater St. Augustine markets, St. Johns Golf and Country Club has gone through a major investment as they have brought in MacCurrach Golf Construction Inc. to complete a 4.5-month green renovation project that includes replacing the putting surfaces with Tif Eagle grass and new 419 Bermuda grass for the collars and approaches. This comes on the heels of the major range renovation that they recently completed that brought TopTracer technology to their driving range, and this continued focus on improving the experience for golfers has boosted their profile for traveling golfers.
Omni Generation Cup comes to the Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa
So many of us were introduced to the game of golf by an older relative, and to celebrate that relationship the team at Omni Hotels & Resorts has created The Omni Generation Cup. The event will have three different divisions that you can participate in which are grandparent and grandchild, parent and child or aunt/uncle and niece/nephew, and PGA Professional and generational family member.
This 12-event qualifier series will take place at various Omni resorts all over the country that are hosting one-day events that will lead to a National Championship event in May 2026. This series will be at Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa on December 13, 2025, and the one-day event will be played as a two-person modified best ball shamble. Each player hits a tee shot, and then the team will select the best of the two shots, and each player plays their ball from that point until the ball is holed. The lower of the two scores is the team score for the hole. The top gross and net teams from each division will earn an invitation to advance to the National Championship. The fee for this event is $350 per team unless you are an Omni member or a PGA Professional in which the rate is $250. Also, you must be a resort guest or Amelia Island Club member to participate in the event, and on the registration page there is a special room block rate you can take advantage of for the event.

Renaissance World Golf Village sold
With a major change in the marketplace the World Golf Village Renaissance St. Augustine Resort sold on July 3, 2025, to the SUN Development & Management Corporation. The sale included only the hotel and not the attached convention center. The fantastic golf courses at World Golf Village are separately owned as well, but we are excited to see what happens with this renovation project as it will be great to have this hotel bring the lodging level up to the high-quality golf experience that you can have on the King & Bear and Slammer & Squire courses. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on these changes as they continue.
New hotels entering the market
Northeast Florida continues to grow in options for golfers who are looking for a great homebase on their golf trip. Some of the latest additions to the market include the new Compass by Margaritaville in Flagler Beach, which is the sister property to the already existing Margaritaville Beach Hotel-Jacksonville Beach, Florida. These new hotels join area staples like the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront and the Wyndham Garden Jacksonville to give you a lot of different price points and locations for the homebase of your golf getaway.
