Can you feel that? The calendar might have just turned to spring, but we are all already thinking about teeing it up in the summer.
That got the Travel Caddie thinking about some of the hottest courses — pun intended — to play from June through September.
Here are five spots to make sure you hit up:
Brewster, Wash. will definitely be the talk of the golf world come May as it opens Quicksands, a new short course designed by David McLay Kidd. Carved into a 25-acre portion of the larger Gamble Sands property, the course holes range for 60 to 160 yards, so it will put your short game to the test.
Kidd had a bit of fun with this design, with the first hole being called “Plinko,” the third nicknamed “Crater” and the ninth carrying “Corkscrew” as its calling card.
Getting the ball close to the hole? Yeah, it’s going to be tough.
“I think that when the golfers get out there, they’re going to be shaking their heads and chuckling, and figuring out how they’re going to get the golf ball close,” says McLay Kidd.
Gamble Sands also has the well-known Sands Course and an incredible Putting Course, while you can also stay on property at the Inn at Gamble Sands.
The advantage of to traveling to Sin City? You can save with us — big time.
At Bali Hai, located just off the Las Vegas Strip, and Paiute, the quality of golf is incredible, and you’re just a short drive from all the entertainment you could possibly need.
Bali Hai takes on a tropical oasis feel, with palm trees and expansive bunkers throughout the championship golf course. The rates? As low as $119 per person, which is unheard of in Las Vegas and comes with a cart, GPS and Bluetooth speakers, not to mention a $50 credit for a Parmate and $20 off Callaway rental clubs. Oh, and a round of Jello shots are included.
Meanwhile, across town at Paiute, there are three Pete Dye-designed courses to choose from, including Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and the Wolf. If you’d like to stay nearby, Paiute partners with MGM Resorts International, with rates also starting at $119 per person.
New York in the summertime is a sight to behold, and Turning Stone has five standout courses to choose from that could keep you in the neighborhood for multiple days.
From Atunyote to Kaluhyat to Shenendoah, as well as Pleasant Knolls and Sandstone Hollow, the golf is varied and will challenge golfers of all skill levels. The visually stunning courses make the tracks completely worthy of your favorite social media platform, while there are plenty of opportunities to score well.
The resort does offer stay-and-play packages, which includes accommodations at The Hotel (Tower or Lodge). Booking gives you a chance for indoor instruction and practice time at the Sportplex, as well as a simulator reservation.
While Michigan is still thawing out a bit, the allure of 10 courses to choose from should get you on your computer immediately to reserve a few rounds this summer.
And these aren’t just 10 courses — they are among the best that the state and region have to offer.
Known as the Magnificent 10, the courses include Links, Quarry, Preserve, the Heather, Arthur Hills, Donald Ross Memorial, the Moor, the Alpine, the Monument and Crooked Tree Golf Club.
A cool perk? BOYNE Golf is a Golf Stay and Plays partner, meaning that the larger your golf group, the more you can save by booking as one of our preferred customers.
You can stay on property at Boyne Highlands, Boyne Mountain or the Inn at Bay Harbor — all of which can be secured by booking a package today!
There’s nothing like South Carolina golf in the summer, especially at Hilton Head, where the Heritage Golf Group has lined up six courses in some pretty sweet package deals.
At Port Royal Golf and Racquet Club, you can play 18 holes at Robber’s Row or Barony. You can play the namesake course at Oyster Reef Golf Club, where Rees Jones designed 18 holes. Meanwhile, the Shipyard Golf Club has three 9-hole courses, including Clipper, Galleon and Brigantine.
If you feel like challenging yourself a bit, Hilton Head also is home to Sea Pines Resort’s Harbour Town Golf Links, made famous by the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage tournament. This is a rare time where you can take on a Pete Dye/Jack Nicklaus masterpiece, as well as follow in the footsteps of prior winners such as Davis Love III and Payne Stewart.
Sea Pines also hosts a Love III-designed course in Atlantic Dunes, while Dye added another in Heron Point.
