The best golf resorts in Georgia

Seaside Course at Sea Island

It’s that time of the year again when all eyes of the golfing world fixate on Georgia for a few perfect days at The Masters. Collectively, we eagerly await who will join the golf history books and don the iconic green jacket.

And while we all know that every golfer on the planet would contemplate selling a major organ for the honor of playing the hallowed grounds of Augusta National Golf Club, the chances of that happening are slim to none for most of us mere golf mortals.

Fear not though, as the great state of Georgia is home to some of the finest golf resorts in the world and we have taken the pleasure of highlighting a few of our favorites for you to consider for your next golf stay-and-play vacation.

Reynolds Lake Oconee

With five golf courses available for resort guests to enjoy, Reynolds Lake Oconee offers visitors an incredible golfing experience alongside a slew of amenities that can cater to even the most discerning guest’s resort dreams.

At the center of this resort and community is Lake Oconee, a 19,000-acre freshwater paradise that not only provides you with ample water activities such as boating, fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and jet skiing just to name a few. You’ll also find these beautiful waters woven into the fabric of the golfing experience here as well as it is prominently featured on courses such as Great Waters and The Oconee.

The resort features multiple lodging options including the luxurious National Club Cottages, The Landing Cottages, and The Village at Lake Club Pointe condos that provide anywhere from 2 to 4-bedroom options that are perfect for both golf groups and family getaways.  The resort also is home to The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee for those who prefer a hotel experience that is draped in elegance with all the trappings of Southern charm that you won’t soon forget.  Either way, you can’t go wrong here as Reynolds Lake Oconee is one of the best golf vacation experiences available in the United States.

The resort offers a wonderful variety of options for your lodging including two Forbes Five Star hotels with The Cloister and The Lodge.  For those looking for a more secluded experience, be sure to check out the Sea Island Cottages that range in size from 2-bedroom cottages all the way up to 8-bedroom homes, as well as The Inn by Sea Island if you’re looking for a more budget conscious option to enjoy the golf experience here.

From a golf perspective, Sea Island offers three exceptional experiences including both the famous Seaside Course and the reimagined Plantation Course that both serve as the home courses to the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic.  These two courses are joined by the more laid-back Retreat Course to perfectly complement your on-course experience at Sea Island.  We also highly suggest you set aside some time to take in the state-of-the-art Golf Performance Center at Sea Island as it’s home to some of the finest instructors in the world with the most advanced technology that can surely enhance your game.

There are many off-course experiences to enjoy at Sea Island including exceptional dining, an incredible spa, horseback riding, the Beach Club, boating, fishing, and the list goes on and on.  It’s without a doubt one of the best vacations for any type of golf getaway.  Once you visit here, we highly expect that Sea Island will become a destination that you come to time and time again over the years to come.

The McLemore

As a new addition to this list for us, The McLemore has burst onto the golf scene over the last few years. It famously provides golf vacationers with one of the most dramatic cliffside views that you’ll ever find on the mesmerizing 18th hole of the Highlands Course.

Nearby this epic finishing hole, you’ll find another recent addition to the golf experience here with The Cairn Short Course which is a great way to extend your golfing day in a fun and memorable way.

The McLemore is also adding a new 18-hole golf experience, The Keep, to the mix. It is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2024, and it is sure to rival its sister course with mountainside views, while the genius of both Bill Bergin and Rees Jones are behind the design.

Also new to the resort in 2024 will be the 245-room hotel known as Cloudland at McLemore Resort, a Curio Collection by Hilton which sits on the cliff-edge atop Lookout Mountain and provides guests with vistas to enjoy throughout your stay.  Featuring an infinity edge pool that opens in May 2024, resort guests can enjoy this incredible location and the outdoors both on and off the course here with great hiking, biking, and rock climbing all available near the resort.
