Streamsong Golf Resort to bring fifth golf course to their iconic resort

Plans for the fifth course at Streamsong

Streamsong Golf Resort in Streamsong, Florida announced on January 22, 2025, that they will be launching the construction of a fifth course at the property under the watchful eye of world-renown architect David McLay Kidd.  Construction is to begin in early 2025 and it will sit on a majestic plot of land that sits between the Streamsong Red and Streamsong Black courses.

David McLay Kidd has been credited with establishing a new era of golf course design and has cemented his position as one of the premier figures in modern golf architecture.  His first highly-touted project came when the team at Bandon Dunes picked him to design the original course at Bandon Dunes, and since that time he has gone on to create some of the most acclaimed courses of the last 20 years including Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley, all three golf courses at Gamble Sands, Tetherow, Nanea, and The Castle Course at St. Andrews.  And now, McLay Kidd is excited to bring his talents to Florida and leave his mark on Streamsong.

“I have read many times how great players have a special love for the Majors. Not sure I understood what that meant when I was younger, but now I get it. In the world of golf design, there are certain properties, locations and even owners that working for can be like playing in the Majors. Streamsong, for me, is a Major,” said architect David McLay Kidd.  “The destination is world-renowned and KemperSports ‘gets it.’  To be included in that group of architects requires my team and I to do something exceptional. That opportunity both excites me and makes me nervous, but in a good way. My team and I are so excited to add to the history of a place so young and yet so rooted in a tradition of exceptional golf architecture.”

When McLay Kidd references “that group of architects” that have developed the first four courses at the property, it is quite a high calibre of experts that the resort has employed to date to bring their golf vision to life.  This esteemed list includes the dynamic duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw for Streamsong Red and The Chain, Tom Doak for Streamsong Blue, and the team of Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner for Streamsong Black.  With David McLay Kidd now being added to their stable of architects, Streamsong Resort now has assembled the only property in the world that has this team of designers who could arguably all be on a modern-day golf architect Mount Rushmore.

The exact date of when the golf course will be ready to open as well as the name of this new design are still to be determined, but we will be sure to keep you in the loop on those details as they become available. It’s exciting to see the development trend continue to grow here as the ownership group of Lone Windmill, LLC, a subsidiary of Kemper Sports Management LLC, took over ownership of the property in 2023.  Their team was already very familiar with the resort as their KemperSports division had been managing the golf courses here since 2012, and they took over operations of the resort in 2021.

Now that they own the property outright, KemperSports has already ushered in a new era here with the addition of The Chain, a 19-hole short course that features a 6-hole, 13-hole, or a 19-hole routing making it a perfect add-on to any golf day at the resort, as well as The Bucket which is a 2.5-acre putting course designed by Coore & Crenshaw that opened in April 2024.

When asked about bringing in David McLay Kidd to design the fifth course at Streamsong Golf Resort, KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner said “We are excited to partner with David to lead the continued evolution at Streamsong Golf Resort.  He is one of the most talented architects of his generation with a unique ability to design golf courses that are visually appealing, challenging and great fun to play. I know the whole golf world will be excited to see what he creates on some of our best property at the resort.”

It’s an amazing addition to a resort that already boasts three of the highest ranked 18-hole golf courses in the country, and we’re excited to see what David McLay Kidd does with this incredible plot of land.
