SentryWorld to host multiple USGA Championships

SentryWorld, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has been selected by the USGA to be the host site for the 2028 U.S. Senior Women’s Open and 2034 U.S. Senior Open Championships.

These two future championships will be the fourth and fifth USGA championships held at SentryWorld, and it further emboldens the resort’s position as one of the premier public golfing destinations in the country.

“We are excited to return to SentryWorld and the state of Wisconsin to conduct these two premier senior events,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer. “We know that SentryWorld will be a great test for these championship fields, and the community has always been incredibly supportive of the USGA. Sentry has been a great partner, and we know there will be enthusiastic support from the region and community for these two national championships.”

SentryWorld was developed by Sentry Insurance in 1982 as part of a sports complex that includes indoor tennis courts, banquet space and restaurants. At the heart of the 200-acre property lies the championship layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.  In 2013, Jones oversaw a major renovation that was led by architects Bruce Charlton and Jay Blasi that reestablished the course’s position to host top-tier championships that included adding SubAir systems under the greens so that the agronomy team can always ensure top conditioning for both major championships and daily play.

“At Sentry, golf has always been a way to build relationships and bring people together,” said Pete McPartland, Sentry Chairman and CEO. “From SentryWorld, to our USGA partnership, and our support of the First Tee, our involvement in the game reflects who we are and how we interact with our customers, our partners, and our communities.”

“SentryWorld was built in part with championship golf in mind,” said Mike James, SentryWorld General Manager. “The 2023 U.S. Senior Open showed that the course can challenge the best players in the world when called upon.  Hosting two more USGA championships keeps our focus and attention on maintaining the best version of SentryWorld as possible.”

2034 will be the second time the course hosts the premier senior men’s championship. Bernhard Langer became the oldest champion at 65 years old when he won the 2023 U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld.

Wisconsin has hosted 18 USGA championships, most recently the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally at Erin Hills. The 2026 U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held at Sand Valley Resort in Nekoosa, and the 2027 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be hosted at Erin Hills in 2027.  The state is also home to the iconic Kohler, Wisconsin which has hosted plenty of major championships itself as the Straits at Whistling Straits has hosted the 2004, 2010, and 2015 PGA Championships, the 2021 Ryder Cup, and the 2007 U.S. Senior Open.  The resort also hosted the 1998 and 2012 U.S. Women’s Open at their other golfing hub at Blackwolf Run.

There’s a reason why the major bodies of golf continue to choose the best public golf courses in Wisconsin as this state has become one of the premier public golfing destinations in the country.

Lucky for you, all of these venues are available for stay and play golf vacations, and we hope you and your group get to enjoy the splendor that is Wisconsin golf.
