Great golf resorts for a romantic getaway

With Valentine’s Day approaching, it got us thinking about some of our favorite golf resorts for a couples getaway.

When it comes to booking a trip with your significant other, there are a few key items that you should keep in mind:

  • Great golf: This is a given. If you’re going to include golf in your experience, make sure you pick a location that helps you cross off one or multiple courses off of your “must play” list.
  • Restaurants: Make sure that the restaurants on property have dining options that you and your spouse will want to enjoy.  You’d be surprised how often we have heard of this being an issue, so a little research before you book goes a long way to ensuring you and your spouse will be able to enjoy a meal you remember forever.
  • Activities: Pick a location that has activities that you and your spouse will want to enjoy.  There’s nothing worse than picking a resort that only includes activities that only one of you like to do, so be sure to be mindful of your partner when selecting your destination.

There are a multitude of resorts that fit the criteria for a great couples getaway, and we wanted to provide a few of our favorites that are always a great option.

Sea Island

Sea Island, located on the coast of Georgia just north of the Georgia/Florida border is one of our favorite resorts in the world.  They can cater to any type of golf trip, but when it comes to getting away with your significant other, we recommend staying at the Cloister.  The Cloister is a Forbes 5-Star property that exudes luxury and features a modern Southern décor that couples tend to love.  This property has it all with activities that include biking, boating, bowling, falconry, fishing, horseback riding, a world class spa, shopping, and a beach club.  From a golf perspective, the resort has 3 championship golf courses with the star of the show being the Seaside Course and a close second with the recently redesigned Plantation Course that play host to the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic.  For more information, visit www.seaisland.com.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort is one the nicest hotels in the country as it blends a regal Southern feel with the relaxed nature that the Lowcountry is known for.  From a golf perspective, the Ocean Course is in that elite category that creates a golf experience you and your spouse will never forget, and with 4 other championship courses on property you can make it a golf heavy trip at great golf courses quite easily.  The Spa is phenomenal, and you can spend your days doing any of the other activities on property including time at the beach or pool, rent some bikes and tour the island, tennis, shopping, and so much more.  To learn more, visit www.kiawahresort.com.

Reynolds Lake Oconee

When you pull into the famous Reynolds Lake Oconee, prepare to let your worries melt away as you enjoy this Georgia sanctuary that’s located just over an hour east of Atlanta.  The resort features a multitude of accommodations, and while we typically suggest a condo stay here with a group trip, for the purpose of a couples getaway we suggest staying at the Ritz-Carlton on property.  The hardest decision you’ll have to make during your stay is do you enjoy the luxurious setting of this top of the line hotel, or do you take advantage of the outdoor options available on property such as the infinity pool that overlooks the lake where there are a multitude of activities to enjoy. With 99 holes of golf available, you’ll have plenty of fantastic options to tee it up during your stay.  If you’ve only got time for one round, we recommend playing the Jack Nicklaus designed Great Waters course.  To learn more about this destination, visit www.reynoldslakeoconee.com

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North

There are a few names that are synonymous with luxury and service, and the Four Seasons brand is always among those that come to mind when you are looking for an elite experience.  The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North will provide you with the luxurious desert vibe you are looking for, and activities onsite include beautiful scenic hikes, a multitude of restaurants and bars, relaxing by the pool, or perhaps a couples massage.  From a golf perspective, you are quite spoiled at this property as Troon North offers 36 holes of epic desert golf at the Monument Course and the Pinnacle Course.   For more information on this property, visit www.fourseasons.com/scottsdale/.
