The Links at Spanish Bay
They say if you’re not growing, you’re dying. Well, even at an elite, world-class facility such as Pebble Beach Golf Resorts is not immune to this adage and this iconic venue has set to even further enhance their guest experience by announcing the redesign of The Links at Spanish Bay by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner.Â
This powerful duo has been at the forefront of some of the best original designs, restorations, and renovations in recent memory including the likes of Pinehurst No. 4, Oakland Hills Country Club, Plainfield Country Club, Streamsong Resort’s Black Course, and Castle Stuart Golf Links.
The Links at Spanish Bay originally opened in 1987 and has provided golfers with a feel of Scotland in the Monterey Peninsula as the course sits between the Pacific Ocean and the Inn at Spanish Bay. As the competitive landscape in the world of golf travel has continued to become more robust over the last several decades, a change like this is exciting for such an iconic property as it will hopefully elevate the profile of this golf course closer to its sister courses of Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill.
When asked about the project, Gil Hanse said, “The Links at Spanish Bay possesses nearly every raw element you’d want in a golf course, from expansive ocean views to rolling, sandy terrain. With these natural attributes already in place, our team will have a significant head start on delivering a final product that will be in the top echelon of ‘must play’ courses.”
There wasn’t a timeline provided at the time of this exciting announcement, but when you combine this announcement with the recent additions over the last few years at Pebble Beach Golf Resorts that includes Fairway One at The Lodge and the Tiger Woods’ redesign of The Hay, there’s no doubt that one of the game’s best destinations is not resting on its laurels and is continuing to strive to create the ultimate golf stay and play experience for golfers to enjoy.
