Mid Pines and Pine Needles form joint venture with Marine & Lawn Resorts; acquire Whispering Pines Country Club and Foxfire Country Club

Whispering Pines Country Club

When it comes to the golf in the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen Area, there is an embarrassment of riches as this is one of the best areas in the country for exceptional destination golf.

Two of the courses that have long been considered gems of the area are Mid Pines and Pine Needles, two classic Donald Ross designs that are among the finest designs in the country.

While many traveling golfers have often found their way to teeing it up at both courses, often they would find accommodations elsewhere as the lodging at both resorts has needed an update as the level of the stay was not up to par with the level of the golf courses.

The ownership team at the resort has been on the search for the right partner for some time now to aid in that mission, and they’ve hit the jackpot as they’ve reached a joint venture with Marine & Lawn Resorts to become the first location for this premier lodging brand in the United States.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Marine & Lawn brand, they have been following a similar model to what they are doing with Mid Pines and Pine Needles at some of the finest golf destinations throughout the United Kingdom.  Some of their current roster includes the likes of the Rusacks St. Andrews adjacent to the 18th hole of The Old Course at St. Andrews, Dornoch Station at Royal Dornoch, and the Slieve Donard near Royal County Down.

Among the early priorities for the new venture is having Marine & Lawn take over a total reconstruction of the hotel at Mid Pines. Renovation work will begin immediately, and the hotel will be shut down for six to eight months with the whole project projected to take between 12 to 16 months at an estimated investment of $47 million.

In addition to this exciting news on the hospitality front, the ownership group at Mid Pines and Pine Needles has also acquired 72 holes of golf in the area with the addition of two 18-hole layouts at Whispering Pines Country Club, and two additional courses at Foxfire Country Club.

We have no doubt that the team here will bring the same level of expertise that they showcased with the purchase and restoration of Southern Pines Golf Club in 2020 further improving the golf selection for visiting golfers.

It’s a massive expansion for this group, and we’re excited to see these changes come to life and will keep you apprised of the changes here throughout the project.
