The Links at Crowbush Cove
There’s loving golf, and then there’s loving golf the way that Canadians love golf. For a country that is known for hockey and other winter sports for half of the year, they sure do appreciate when the snow melts away and their golf courses seem to reemerge from their snow-covered slumber and showcase lush green fairways for our kind to enjoy.
With more than 2,000 golf courses in the country total, golf is very much a part of life in the United States’ Northern neighbor, and nowhere is that more prevalent than in Prince Edward Island. PEI boasts more golf courses per capita than any other province in the country with more than 25 golf courses on an island that is about 140 miles long and ranges from 2 to 40 miles wide. That narrow width means that from a golfing perspective, many of the courses here enjoy spectacular views of the ocean with plenty of holes running along the water for golfers to feast their eyes upon.
In addition to the spectacular golf that comes at one-third the cost of comparable courses throughout the U.S., PEI offers exceptional entertainment and enjoyment off the course for your group to enjoy as well. Value will be a term that is used often with Prince Edward Island, as your rounds of golf won’t break the bank and you’ll have plenty of money left over to enjoy all the PEI has to offer.
The golf on Prince Edward Island
The first time we had the chance to visit Prince Edward Island, we were floored with how good the golf is here, especially for the price. There are so many great options to choose from, but we’ve taken the liberty of highlighting a few of our favorites on the island.
The Links at Crowbush Cove is one of the best courses on the island, and you can play here for only $140 CAD for a round of golf in peak season. That’s insane value considering how much it costs to play any of the oceanside beauties available in the United States. Located on the north shore dunes of Prince Edward Island, The Links at Crowbush Cove features myriad challenges including undulating fairways, numerous water hazards including the ocean, pot bunkers, and the prevailing winds off the water to make your round both challenging and visually mesmerizing.
No hole on the course encapsulates this better than the par-4 16th, a straightaway hole that requires a forced carry over a lake off the tee only to find the ocean up the right side of the hole. At 360 yards from the back tees, precision over power is needed here as you’ll look to avoid two fairway bunkers up the left side of the hole, as well as two pot bunkers short and right of the green here. Pro tip: If you can time your round to get here close to sunset, you will not be disappointed.
If you are looking for more oceanside vistas, also be sure to check out the 9-hole gem that is Belfast Highland Greens for an incredible deal and an enjoyable layout. Another favorite of PEI visitors is Green Gables Golf Course, a course that not only features phenomenal water views as seen here, but also is the area for the famous Anne of Green Gables novel that is one of the best-selling books of all time with over 50 million copies sold.
Two more courses that feature phenomenal water features in the form of the picturesque Brudenell River at Dundarave and the aptly named Brudenell River Course. Dundarave is a favorite of ours as the course offers a great test of golf with some exceptional holes on it including the par-4 8th hole that features a forced carry off the tee with a series of pot bunkers up the left side of the fairway, as well as an incredible view of the water on the backside of this green.
Off-course activities on Prince Edward Island
As much as you’ll enjoy the golf experience in Prince Edward Island, the off-course activities available in Prince Edward Island are quite memorable.
We’ve got to start with the food, and if you’re a seafood lover, this is the island for you. This region is known for their mussels, lobster, oysters, and clams worldwide and with good reason. And as you can imagine, with being oceanside to provide culinary delights from the sea, it also means that Prince Edward Island is known for its fantastic beaches.
In summer, there are 23 supervised beaches available to explore in PEI, and there is a great variety amongst those options including red- and white-sand beaches for you to enjoy.
Depending on where you stay, there’s so much to see and do after your round here, but more importantly we suggest you immerse yourself in the culture whenever possible as the people of Prince Edward Island are among the friendliest of anywhere, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Canadians are often known for their affable nature, but that’s even more evident on this lovely island.
