Big Cedar Lodge
Big Cedar Lodge has exploded onto the golf scene and has quickly emerged as one of the top resorts in the country. Even in peak season, rates here are quite reasonable considering the level of golf that their team provides. But if you are willing to take a little risk on the cooler seasons, you can find some incredible value.
Big Cedar Lodge prices their golf packages a little bit differently as all hotel and lodging is dynamically priced, but the golf is priced a la carte and you can built our your package based on your budget giving you a ton of flexibility to pick and choose your own itinerary. 2024 bookings are available even though the rates aren’t listed on their website yet, but using 2023 rates that the peak season rate to play Payne’s Valley for resort guests was $350, and from December 4-31, 2023 that rate drops to $200 and from January 22-March 9, 2023 that rate was all the way down to $150.
If you’re looking to travel on a budget here, take a look at Angler’s Lodge as it is very affordable and offers a great option for guests who looking to save a few dollars, but if you can afford it take a look at staying at Big Cedar Lodge or the Payne’s Valley Cottages as we’ve heard guests rave about the experience here.
Rams Hill
Rams Hill is one of those hidden gems that we love to tell people about. Located in Borrego Springs, California about 2 hours east of San Diego or 1.5 hours south of Palm Springs, this beautiful Tom Fazio design was recognized in the early days of Golf Advisor as the No. 1 course in the country. The list at that time was made up of courses that delivered the most bang for your buck, and with peak stay-and-play rates of $155 on the weekends in 2023 you’ll quickly see why they earned that major award.
From a stay-and-play perspective, Rams Hill has several houses for you to choose from which are perfect for many golf groups, and they also can set you up at either the Casa del Zorro Resort or the Borrego Springs Resort, giving them the ability to cater to groups across a variety of price points and accommodation options. The pictures of this course speak for themselves, and if you’re considering a visit to Southern California then Rams Hills may be the perfect place for you.

Orange County National
Orlando is an extremely popular destination for vacationing golfers, and one of the best public facilities in the city is Orange County National in Winter Garden, Florida. Orange County National features 45 holes of golf with its two 18-hole championship courses of Crooked Cat and Panther Lake, as well as a 9-hole short course. Crooked Cat and Panther Lake are the stars of the show here, and these two courses have hosted numerous golf events over the years including Q-School for the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour.
Rates here are all based on dynamic pricing, so you’ll have to check on preferred dates but there are often deals available here especially if you can play during the week. From an accommodations standpoint, OCN does have lodging onsite but we suggest you stay at one of their resort partners as the feedback from groups we’ve heard tends to favor these properties.
