The golf

Of course, you are reading this story because you want to find out about great golf experiences and Argentario Golf Club delivers an exceptional experience during your stay.  The course is the only PGA licensed golf facility in Italy, and the DP World Tour has recognized the excellence of the layout here as they have been selected to be the host of the 2025 Italian Open on June 26-29.

The par-71 layout tips out at just under 6,900 yards so while length certainly helps here off the tee, you’ll quickly find that accuracy here as just as vital to putting up a score here as the course is known for its small, well-protected greens.  The course is riddled with strategic bunkering so course management is vital throughout your round, and the combination of large bunkers and pot bunkers along with multiple water hazards will place a premium on accuracy throughout your round.  As you can imagine with its coastal location, wind can be a factor here so finding these tricky greens will test every bit of your game.

The first few holes of the day greet you immediately with spectacular views, and many golfers find that the back-nine softens up a little, so you’ll have some great opportunities for scoring as you finish your round.

The variety of holes is noticeable.  We love how the round includes difficult short par-3s such as the 2nd and 5th holes that utilize angled greens and bunkers to play games with your mind off the tee.  This is combined with a collection of par 4s and 5s that vary in length and protection, and you’ll notice that many of the holes are protected by massive trees that even guard the center of the fairway such as on the 18th hole.  Once again, the setting here is just as much of a star of the show as the course as the stunning water views as well as holes that play along nearby olive trees creates a unique experience that is authentic to the Tuscan countryside.

The resort and experience

Your time off the course has been built to reinvigorate your senses all while embracing the natural spirit of the destination.  A must for any guest to enjoy is take in a sunset on the terrace of the clubhouse.  This includes enjoying the Olio Extra Virgin Olive Oil that is produced by the team here and comes directly from the olive trees that surround the golf course.  You and your group can enjoy this amazing olive oil drizzled over a crisp toasted Tuscan bread known as fettunta all while enjoying the majesty of the views from the clubhouse terrace.  Talk about a unique experience!

This is only available to Marriott Bonvoy members as the resort was selected by Marriott International to become a part of exclusive Autograph Collection of Hotels in 2024.  The Autograph Collection is a dynamic portfolio of independent hotels selected by Marriott for their individuality, inherent craft, and distinctive perspectives on design.  This property has that in spades, and when you combine the fact that they are a local pioneer in sustainability, their focused approach to blending contemporary design with the surrounding pristine nature, the warm hospitality, and the authentic experiences available here, it’s easy to see how they earned this prestigious honor.

Recommendation

Italy is quickly rising up the rankings of a must-visit golf destination in Europe.  In addition to the wonderful golf experience that Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort, Autograph Collection has to offer, a stay here can also include a round at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club that recently hosted the 2023 Ryder Cup.  It’s under 2 hours away from the resort, and sliding over for a day here is very easy to add into your itinerary.

Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort, Autograph Collection is special.  It creates a setting for a golf trip unlike anything you will find in North America, and you’ll enjoy your time here off the course as much as you will on the incredible championship layout.  The resort has some incredible offers that you can find here that are priced quite well considering the level of the experience here, and Marriott Bonvoy members should also consider cashing in some of their points to stay here as we found that they go a long way at the resort compared to other destinations.
