The Golden Bear designed Pinehurst No. 9 and it opened in 1988, only to return in 2012 to tinker with the layout. No. 9 is set among the longleaf pines, just up the road from Pinehurst’s main campus. Nicklaus made sure that his course had some teeth, as it plays 7,122 yards from the tips, with the details of the course mesmerizing golfers of all kinds. The par-4s on this course will push you to take heavy lumber off the tee.
