Finding the best launch monitor for your money

It’s incredible how far the world of technology has developed over the last 15 years to bring data to golfers in a way that they’ve never had before.

And the person who pioneered golf performance data and analytics is Henri Johnson, Founder and CEO of FlightScope.  When it comes to looking for the right launch monitor for you, there are a ton of options out there now and we wanted to highlight the one that arguably provides the most bang for the buck in the marketplace: The FlightScope Mevo+.

The ultimate in versatility

When you start looking at launch monitors, you’ll notice that there tends to be a major price jump where most products come in somewhere around the $400-$600 mark, the $4,000-$6,000 mark, and then all the way up to the $25,000+ market.  Just like anything in life, there’s a reason for the price hikes here as the accuracy and amount of data from the higher tier units does tend to only get better as you go up in price.

But for serious golfers who are looking for both a great indoor and outdoor experience, the value of the Mevo+ is simply through the roof.

For indoor and outdoor use, the Mevo+ comes in at a pricepoint at $2,299 (with massive Black Friday 2024 savings available now at $1,839!) that will give you 20 different data parameters on your swing and ball flight including:

Full Swing and Chipping:

  • Ball Speed
  • Club Head Speed
  • Smash Factor
  • Carry Distance
  • Launch Angle
  • Spin Rate
  • Apex Height
  • Flight Time
  • Angle of Attack
  • Spin Loft
  • Launch Direction
  • Spin Axis
  • Roll Distance
  • Total Distance
  • Lateral Landing
  • Shot Dispersion
  • Shot Type

Putting:

  • Launch Speed
  • Total Distance
  • Ball Direction

And for the more discerning player, instructor, or club fitter you can add on a Pro Package software add-on that shows the following items which are especially helpful when working on your swing including:

  • Face to Path
  • Face to Target
  • Dynamic Loft
  • Club Path
  • Vertical Swing Plane
  • Horizontal Swing Plane
  • Low Point
  • Vertical Descent Angle
  • Curve
  • Club Speed Profile
  • Club Acceleration Profile

Another optional component that we love that this device offers is the Face Impact Location package.  For a small one-time add-on charge to the Mevo+ with Pro Package, you can see where the club made impact with the ball which is incredibly helpful when analyzing your swing and the data.  For example, a ripped driver may showcase a slightly higher spin rate resulting in a few lost yards than you would have expected, but when you look at the heatmap of the face impact you could see that it was slightly low on the face which could be why this happened.  That kind of data is invaluable to help you when maximizing your game to bring with you on the course at home and on the road.

A useful feature we love on this device is the action video clips with data overlay.  What this means is that when you are going through a training session with the Mevo+ and are using up to four cameras (one is included in the Mevo+) to video your swing with an iPhone or an iPad for example, the device automatically clips that video of your swing for you and showcases all of the relevant data you selected so you can see in real time how the changes you are implementing to your swing can impact performance.

It’s an incredible asset for any golfer that is trying to get better, and having real-time data like this is invaluable to getting your game to the peak level.

Perfect for an at-home simulator

Now let’s talk about what makes this device such a great tool for players who are looking to work on their game from the comfort of their home.  The Mevo+ comes loaded with ownership of 12 E6 Connect simulated golf courses for iOS and PC including the likes of Pebble Beach, the Old Course at St. Andrews, and Bethpage Black.  More importantly, these courses are available to you at the time of purchase at no additional charge, and there is no subscription of licensing fee required from that point forward to play these courses.

This combined with the included practice and skills combines that the device comes with set the stage for the perfect indoor simulator set up that comes at a fraction of the price of other simulators in the market.

If you’re interested in creating a simulator set-up with the Mevo+, FlightScope has created a simulator package that is now running at a Black Friday special low price of $3,700-$4,000 that includes a hitting enclosure, turf mat, a high-quality impact resistant screen, projector, 25’ HDMI cable, and a projector ceiling mount.  You’ll need to make sure you have at least 8’ of height to fit the hitting bay enclosure (although most users will want a minimum of 12 feet to ensure they can make full swings – especially with driver), 8’ from your Mevo+ to the golf ball, and 8’ from the golf ball to the screen.  You’ll also want to use some of the provided aluminum stickers to place on the golf ball for indoor use as it helps the camera pick up the data to ensure the utmost accuracy for you. The other option is to use the Titleist RCT golf balls which do not require an aluminum dot.

Overall, we haven’t seen anything at this price point in the marketplace that even comes close to what this device delivers.  Usually, you’d have to move up significantly in an investment level to get this kind of precise data, so if you’re looking to improve your game (especially for you snowbirds who are about to be subject to crazy cold temperatures this winter), we highly recommend you check out the FlightScope Mevo+.
