Eight of the best golf resorts in Europe

Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort, Autograph Collection

Over the last several years, golf trips across the ocean to Europe has seen an explosion in popularity in a way that we have never seen before.  Pilgrimages overseas to Scotland and Ireland have always been popular, but more and more golfers from North America are starting to expand their horizons and are building unforgettable trips to amazing destinations all throughout Europe.

Europe does differ quite a bit from golf trips in North America in the fact that there aren’t a ton of huge resorts with multiple courses. In fact, many top courses are stand-alone without accommodations attached, and it’s quite common for groups to set up a home base in the middle of a sector of great courses and do some small commutes to play multiple great courses.

To assist you with finding some of the best locations to base a golf trip around, we’ve compiled a list of eight of Europe’s best golf resorts that have at least one golf course onsite that should be on your radar for your next European golf getaway.

Adare Manor (Ireland)

When you think of that feeling of a “wow factor,” it’s hard to find a place that inspires that more than Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland.  Guests can stay in the Manor House, a castle that exudes opulence at every turn that includes a Michelin star restaurant onsite amongst its many amenities.  The Golf Course at Adare Manor is set to host the 2027 Ryder Cup, and it is one of the most pristine parkland-style golf experiences in the world that stands out in a land that is known for links-style golf.

Trump Turnberry (Scotland)

When it comes to the Open Championship, there have been so many iconic finishes but one of our absolute favorites was the historic battle between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson known as the “Duel in the Sun” that took place on the Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry.  Known as one of the best golf courses in the world, this iconic layout features some of the best ocean holes you’ll find on the planet including the iconic par-3 9th hole that features the Turnberry Lighthouse at the turn, and as you make your way around this course it’s easy to understand why it receives all of the acclaim that it does.  The resort is also home to the King Robert the Bruce Course to provide 36 great holes all under one roof, and the hotel was the UK’s only only Forbes 5-Star Resort in 2024.

The Old Course Hotel St. Andrews Golf Resort & Spa (Scotland)

When your hotel serves as one of the obstacles for arguably the most famous hole in golf, how could we not include The Old Course Hotel on this list?!   The iconic tee shot on the 17th hole on the Old Course at St. Andrews features cutting the corner of this dogleg right par-4 over the Old Course Hotel on the famous “Road Hole,” and it includes world-renown dining/bar locations such as The Jigger Inn and the Swilcan Loft where you can enjoy views of this amazing hole.

The resort also owns The Duke’s Golf Course which is a short drive away from the resort.  As you’ll see from our exclusive drone footage here, this heathland layout is a ton of fun and is a great complement when included on your golf itinerary with other area favorites including all the courses of the St. Andrews Links Trust, Dumbarnie Links, and Kingsbarns.
