No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass
TPC Sawgrass is one of those golf experiences that every true golfer has circled on their bucket list, and as the site of THE PLAYERS Championship, golfers get an annual reminder of why this golf course is so truly special.Â
There’s no doubt that the iconic 17th hole gets so much love here, and with good reason, but one thing that you’ll hear most golfers say after a round on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course is that there isn’t a bad hole on the course. Â
We talk to golfers all year long that want to play here, and one of the questions that we often are asked is how to maximize your experience here.Â
Don’t worry, as we have you covered.
Where to stay
This will be the easiest part of your itinerary, as the answer is the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa located at the main entrance to the golf course. With a spa, four pools, multiple dining options, a great lobby bar, and access to a private Cabana Beach Club, it’s the perfect homebase for you and your crew during your visit to one of golfs’ best destinations. And upon arrival, you’ll also receive an annual subscription to Golf Digest and 2 complimentary drinks to kick things off right for your stay here.
The resort features multiple room options including rooms and suites that have one or two beds in them giving you the ability to have a room to yourself or bunk up with a friend and save a few bucks with a double occupancy room. There is also complimentary shuttle service that can take you to the course as well as around the nearby area.
Where to play
Also, we feel like this one is a no-brainer. Â
Your stay absolutely must include at least one round on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, and if your budget can afford it, we suggest you spring for a second go around this masterful design.Â
In addition to THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, TPC Sawgrass is also home to the Dye’s Valley Course which provides players with a more relaxed layout with wider fairways and larger greens to give you a much-needed break after taking on the Stadium Course. With that being said, it’s far from a walk in the park around the Dye’s Valley and it serves as a perfect complement to a day on the Stadium Course.
Another fun addition to the area is The Yards which was added in 2020. With a unique routing that allows you to play either 3, 6, 9, or 12 holes, this fun short course is only 2 miles away from the resort giving you a fun additional option during your stay.
What to pack
What you’ll wear to the sunshine state for your visit to the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa and on the course here will depend on the season of your visit, but there’s a good chance that it’ll be warn during your round so we recommend a few of the following items for you:
Tropical Chestband Lisle Self Collar: Embrace the oceanside breezes during your trip with this lightweight polo by FootJoy that features ProDry performance and will work both on and off the course in this beachside destination.
Micro-Floral Print Lightweight Woven Short: Much like the polo shirt we just mentioned, these shorts will fit the vibe of your tropical destination and work both on and off the course at the resort foy you during your visit to sunny Florida. They come in 3 color varieties, and the easy care fabric unpacks well right out of your suitcase.
FJ HyperFlex: For a shoe that is fashion forward and also comfortable in any condition, we highly recommend the HyperFlex series from FootJoy. These shoes provide incredible traction and an athletic upper sole that provides a comfortable fit that is still stable through impact.
