The Gold Course at Wailea Golf Club
In an extremely difficult decision, the PGA Tour had to shift their 2026 opening event plans for the Sentry Tournament of Champions when the conditions in mid-2025 at the famous Plantation Course at Kapalua were looking quite grim due to a legal dispute between the course owners and the Maui Land & Pineapple Co. over a failing ditch system that didn’t deliver the water to the course as promised.
While there isn’t an exact resolution to this matter as of yet, Kapalua has certainly found a way around it as the recent conditions and pictures are showing the course back to its vibrant ways.
We’re glad to see one of the marquee courses of the island restored back to its previous glory, and it’s important to note that the other courses in Maui have not been subject to these same conditions and are looking as lush as ever.
Two of these properties that we highly suggest you check out on a visit to Maui are Ka’anapali and Wailea Golf. Ka’anapali is home to 36 holes of championship golf featuring the Ka’anapali Kai Course which provides a more open, shorter layout than its sister course, the Royal Ka’anapali Course. As you’ll see in our exclusive drone footage here, the Royal Ka’anapali course has some stunning views and provides a more challenging design, but there are still some getable holes if you are striking it well.
Located further South, you’ll find Wailea Golf Club which is home to 54 holes of picturesque golf that is highlighted by the incomparable Wailea Gold Course. As you’ll see here, this course is stunning and will test every facet of your game.
In addition to the Gold Course, there is also the Wailea Blue Course and the Wailea Emerald Course for guests to enjoy. There are always great offers if you put together a package that includes multiple rounds from their portfolio, so check those out prior to booking.
It’s easy to enjoy a golf vacation here that allows you to play all three of these incredible facilities as it’s only just over an hour from Wailea to Kapalua, and Ka’anapli fits nicely in the middle of the two and is slightly closer to Kapalua. Also, the nice thing about that is you can book at one of the many resorts in West Maui or South Maui and easily visit any or all three of these facilities.
Each of these courses provides an excellent experience, so do yourself a favor and book a trip and get golfing on island time as soon as possible.
