Pebble Beach Golf Links
There are few moments in our lives that ever live up to the lofty expectations that we set for them. Walking down the aisle on your wedding day, the birth of a child, that instant when you land your dream job…all times in your life that you will never forget. One golf trip that certainly belongs on that list of unforgettable moments in your life is a visit to the icon known as Pebble Beach.
The gem of the Monterey Peninsula resides on one of the greatest stretches of real estate in the known world. While we know your expectations will be sky high for your round at Pebble Beach Golf Links, we know you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how the balance of the entire experience with rounds at Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay, and the Tiger Woods-designed short course known as The Hay will all leave an indelible mark on your golf soul.
The golf: Pebble Beach Golf Links
When it comes to the golf here, we must start with the star of the show known as Pebble Beach Golf Links. What you quickly realize when you start your round at Pebble Beach is that the course is gettable on the first few holes if the wind isn’t howling off the ocean which is a bit of a surprise to most golfers.
A central theme that you’ll find throughout your round is that the greens are often quite small.
The first five holes will typically leave you with a short iron in, so if you avoid an errant tee shot you should be in position to get your round off to a good start.
Once you get to the 6th hole, your round really kicks into gear. The severely uphill par-5 6th begins one of the best 3-hole stretches in all of golf. The 7th hole, a downhill par-3 to a small green that is engulfed by the Pacific Ocean is one of, if not the, most memorable par-3 shots in the game of golf. It can play as a flip wedge if the winds off the Pacific aren’t playing too strongly, but you quickly realize how crazy it can play as you hear the stories of players like the long-hitting Tony Finau who hit a 4-iron into this green when the gusts off the ocean reach their peak levels. The 8th hole is often the sneaky favorite for many golfers who play here as a laid-up tee shot short of the cliff leaves one of the most difficult approach shots on the grounds and making a par here will feel like a birdie.
As the round continues, there truly isn’t a bad hole in the bunch. Hole Nos. 9 through 13 resemble the earlier stretch where you have a chance to get a few strokes back. Then, the need for precision approach shots comes back to the forefront on the finishing stretch highlighted by the famous par-3 17th hole that has a stunning oceanside backdrop and a well-protected wide, skinny green. Next, you make your way over to the par-5 18th and you’ve finally arrived at one of the most glorious tee shots in golf. The long par-5 is the definition of risk-reward where long hitters can potentially reach this green in two with a couple of perfect shots, but there is danger lurking everywhere with the Pacific Ocean running all the way down the left side, two well-placed trees that affect your tee shot and your approach shot, and ample bunkering. It’s the ideal way to cap off the perfect round and trust us when we tell you that this is one of those experiences that you’ll cherish forever.

The golf: Spyglass Hill Golf Course
Almost anywhere else in the world, you’d say that this is the premier experience at the resort but when you are the home of Pebble Beach Golf Links, being the second-best course on property is still a mighty badge of honor. Spyglass is thought by many players to be the truest test of golf at Pebble Beach, and your round here kicks off with a bang as the early holes feature some of the best ocean views on the property highlighted by the gorgeous downhill par-3 3rd hole followed by one of the most unique par-4s you’ll find anywhere with the slight dogleg left 4th hole that features a long, incredibly skinny green that is shaped like an upside down letter “L.” The ocean views subside after the 5th hole as the routing makes its way back through the forest, but you won’t mind that at all as the layout continues to be mesmerizing all the way through your final hole. There’s a wonderful variety of elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and plenty of length to test all facets of your game.

The golf: The Links at Spanish Bay
When it comes to your round at The Links at Spanish Bay, we think it will end up being your favorite surprise of the trip. From the moment you arrive at the first hole and you’re greeted by the sound of crashing waves along the Pacific coastline, you quickly realize that this course is incredibly underappreciated for the sense of place that it instills in you. It is the most welcoming test of golf from tee to green as good players can strategically attack this course, and the layout focuses on premium approach shots as the multi-tiered greens require finding the right zone if you want to score here. While we personally love the current layout, we cannot wait to see what Gil Hanse and his team do with this piece of land as they are scheduled to begin a renovation of The Links at Spanish Bay in March 2026 which is scheduled to be a 13-month long project.

The golf: Del Monte Golf Course
The final 18-hole test available here is Del Monte Golf Course, a course that first opened in 1897 and features the longest running course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. This is much more of a classically designed golf course that tips out at under 6,400 yards, and we’ve found that many golfers will use it as a great warm up round to kick off their trip at this legendary destination.

The golf: The Hay
After one of your 18-hole rounds, we highly suggest you make your way over to The Hay which embodies everything that is right with the game of golf. Designed to be accessible to all, juniors 12 and under can play free here while Youth on Course members can play for $5. Even the price for the general public and resort guests is only $75. The holes are short, and you only need a couple wedges and putter to play it. The vibe here is fun and friendly for all to enjoy. It is an easy walk, and even after 18 holes earlier in the day everyone in your group will have plenty left in the tank to enjoy this little loop.
Overall, it’s without a doubt one of the best collections of golf courses on one property that you’ll find anywhere in the world.
