The best destinations in Canada for a golf trip

Dundarave

For a country that’s known as one of the friendliest destinations that we have ever been to, Canada is home to some of the most passionate, die-hard golfers that we have ever met. Likely a result of the fact that they have a shorter golf season than most locations, Canadians have an undying love for our great game and this massive country is home to some amazing golf properties.

As a strong majority of our readers hail from the United States, it’s also never been a better time to visit our neighbor to the North as the exchange rate is currently at a rate that makes playing some of these amazing locations more affordable than ever.  While there are plenty of fantastic golf courses throughout the country, we’ve highlighted a few of the best destinations that are universally ranked among the best in the Great White North.

Cabot Cape Breton (Inverness, Nova Scotia)

Cabot Cape Breton is among the best golf resorts in the world, let alone Canada.  Everything about this resort is amazing.  It all starts with the golf, as the resort is home to the jaw-dropping Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw designed Cabot Cliffs golf course that features a ridiculously beautiful stretch of holes that play along the cliffs including the iconic par-3 16th hole where the green sits on a peninsula overlooking the water.  Your vacation here also must include a round on Cabot Links, the Rod Whitman layout that features insane ocean views and is equally fantastic.  Cap your trip off with a loop around The Nest, the 10-hole short course that sits on the highest point of the property and offers incredible views.  Cabot Cape Breton is a bucket-list must play for all golfers.

Prince Edward Island (Various Cities, Prince Edward Island)

With over 400 fairways to choose from on an island that takes just over 3 hours from drive from tip to tip, Prince Edward Island may just be the greatest value destination in all North America.  The golf is that good, and when you can play golf courses such as Crowbush Cove, Dundarave, Glasgow Hills, and Mill River that can feature oceanside holes, fantastic design, and incredible conditioning…and that’s with the highest rates of about $120 U.S. currently per round!

Oceanside golf, fresh seafood, arguably the nicest people on the planet, and a plethora of beaches are just some of the many things you will enjoy about a trip to this unforgettable island.

Crowbush Cove

Whistler (Whistler, British Columbia)

Whistler may be famous for its winter sports, but you can’t sleep on the fact that the golf in the mountains of British Columbia offers a grouping of 4 exceptional golf courses with the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club, Nicklaus North Golf Course, Big Sky Golf Club, and Whistler Golf Club.  These courses are all exceptional in their own way, and when you combine the stunning mountainous backdrops, thought-provoking design, and top-notch conditioning here you’ll be shocked that you can book golf vacation packages here for as low as $208 U.S. per person, per night as you’ll see here.

There are a multitude of options from a lodging perspective, but a couple we know we can recommend that you will love are the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, The Westin Resort & Spa, the Four Seasons Resort Whistler, and the Delta Village Suites.

From an off-course activity perspective, there is so much to see and do here including enjoying the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, testing your nerve while crossing the Cloudraker Skybridge, great shopping, dining, hiking, biking, and so much more.  It is one of our favorite locations in all of Canada to visit, and we know you will love your experience here.

Fairmont Banff Springs (Banff, Alberta)

We’re not sure there isn’t a more picture-perfect setting for a golf resort anywhere in the world.  That’s how gorgeous the views are at the Fairmont Banff Springs.  With 27 holes of golf available onsite with the Stanley Thompson 18 and the Tunnel Mountain 9, it’s tough to focus on your game throughout your round as you’ll constantly find yourself captivated by the gorgeous mountain backdrops, crystal blue waters, striped fairways, and tree-lined routing.

This castle resort that resides in the heart of Banff National Park, is located at the base of Rundle Mountain and the toughest part of your visit here will be deciding how you split your time between the luxurious accommodations and amenities indoors and the plethora of activities to enjoy outdoors.  When you’re not on the course, we suggest you take in some of the gorgeous hikes, wildlife tours, gondola rides, and spend some time around the nearby flawless lakes.

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Alton, Ontario)

Beginning on May 15, 2025, TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley has now entered the chat as a must-visit golf stay and play destination in Canada.  With 3 of the top ranked golf courses in Canada with the North, Hoot, and Heathlands courses, TPC Toronto has also recently added a variety of 4-, 2-, and 1-bedroom or studio suites into their arsenal.

This is a game-changer for a property that has long been known for offering 3 great golf courses that vary greatly in experience.  The North Course was recently renovated in 2023, and the course is set to host the 2025 RBC Canadian Open where the best players in the world will test their mettle on a parkland-style design as this beast of a par 70 tips out at 7,445 yards from the Championship tees.  For a stark contrast, the resort also features the Heathlands Course, a design inspired by Portmarnock Golf Club in Ireland that features a links-style layout with fescue-covered dunes, daunting greens, and plenty of pot bunkers to give you the feel that you are teeing it up “across the pond.”  The Hoot Course was inspired by Pine Valley, so you know that plenty of sandy wasteland areas await you here as shot making is rewarded here especially for better players.
