Cheyenne Mountain Resort
When it comes to a golf trip to Colorado, there are an abundance of great options. The incredible terrain available in the state with its mountainous backdrops can create some of the best settings in the country for a round of golf.Â
One of our favorite spots for a golf trip in this great state is the often-overlooked area of Colorado Springs. The second largest city in the state of Colorado is known for Pikes Peak, the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, and for being the home of both the United States Air Force Academy and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Centers.
It is known for being one of the fittest cities in the country, and you’ll quickly understand why when you get here as the setting will make you want to get outdoors and tee it up at one of the great courses that this destination has to offer.
We’ve put together a list of a few of our favorite golf resorts and courses in this area that are certainly worth a look if you’re looking to head out West for your next golf getaway.
The Broadmoor
Steeped in tradition since this iconic property opened more than 100 years ago, The Broadmoor is one of the most iconic golf resorts West of the Mississippi.Â
The Broadmoor is known as the world’s longest-running Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond Resort, and rightfully so as the service levels here are impeccable and the setting among the 5,000-acre main campus that sits at the base of the mountains is truly awe-inspiring. There is no shortage of activities to enjoy here with many of them focused on getting you outdoors such as fly fishing, hiking, tennis, pickleball, biking, rock climbing, and so much more.
Of course, we love this property for its exceptional golf offerings. And we aren’t the only ones who have noticed as the USGA has the resort slated to host the U.S. Senior Open in June 2025. Â
With 36 holes of golf available onsite, The East Course at The Broadmoor was designed by Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and is steeped in history as it served as the home of Jack Nicklaus’ first iconic win with the 1959 U.S. Amateur.Â
It has gone on to host multiple other USGA Championships over the years including Annika Sorenstam’s first major title at the 1995 U.S. Women’s Open, and the course would not receive such an impressive list of events if it did not deliver an amazing experience in every way.
The fairways and greens here are quite large for a site that has been tapped by the governing bodies to host such prestigious events, but you quickly understand why once you spray one a little here as many of the holes are made to feel tighter due to the massive number of trees you will encounter.
Also, the greens can be quite tricky so just remember that all putts break away from the mountains. Don’t worry though as the lush conditioning and beautiful mountain vistas will keep you entertained even if you score creeps up a little on you here.
The West Course at The Broadmoor, also designed by Ross and Jones, Sr., provides a stern test of golf for guests as you’ll find more holes that feature doglegs and steeply angled greens here compared to its sister course. The tree-lined fairways will make your tee shots feel a little tighter, so you’ll want to bring your A-game if you want to go low on the West Course.
If you’re looking for the ultimate in luxury in Colorado Springs, then look no further than The Broadmoor.

When it comes to a great golf vacation at exceptional value in Colorado Springs, then we highly recommend Cheyenne Mountain Resort. This homey and comfortable property features over 300 rooms that are ample in size and perfect for a golf getaway. Â
Once again, getting outdoors in Colorado Springs is an absolute must and Cheyenne Mountain offers resort guests multiple pool options including an indoor pool, and outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 21-and-over private pool, and a kiddie pool with a splash pad. Add these amenities to everything else there is to see and do here such as the indoor and outdoor tennis courts, pickleball, private lake with boat access, and nearby hiking to name just a few of the adventures you can enjoy at this property.
As a guest of the resort, you receive exclusive access to The Country Club of Colorado which is only available to members and resort guests. This stunning Pete Dye design features panoramic views of the nearby mountains and has plenty of that famous Dye charm as you’ll find plenty of bunkering and water hazards throughout your round to test every club in your bag. It’s a favorite amongst visiting golfers in the area, and we think it’s a must play if you visit Colorado Springs.

Flying Horse Resort & Club
If you’re looking for a resort experience that gives you the feeling of being more like a member than a guest, than Flying Horse Resort & Club could be just what the doctor ordered. Located on the northern side of Colorado Springs near the Air Force Academy, Flying Horse Resort & Club is a high-end experience that provides resort guests an exclusive feel, high-end modern accommodations with just the right amount of Colorado Springs vibes, and a sublime spa experience.
The stars of the show at Flying Horse Resort & Club are the two incredible golf courses. The Weiskopf Course, designed by the legendary Tom Weiskopf, provides golfers with a challenging test of a links-style inspired layout that provides ample fairways as well as thick native grasses if you find yourself hitting an errant shot.
The Flying Horse North Course is located amongst the Black Forest area of the property and combines holes that weave through the forest alongside holes in the open prairie to give you a series of distinct holes throughout your round. It provides an incredible sense of place, and if you haven’t settled your bet after 18 holes the course provides an extra 19th hole par 3 near the clubhouse so you’ll want to be sure to step up to the challenge because there will be onlookers from the clubhouse either cheering or jeering you.
The resort provides a wonderful setting for any type of golf trip, and the superb conditioning will send you home raving about your experience here.

Recommendation
Colorado Springs is a wonderful destination for a golf trip, and we highly recommend that you set aside plenty of time off the course to enjoy all that the area has to offer, in addition to the amenities on site of whichever property you choose.
One great thing is that these properties are all located close to each other. In fact, you could visit all four properties in less than an hour! So don’t be afraid to book a stay at one property to enjoy their courses and amenities and then tack on an extra day or two at another one of the nearby resorts so you can immerse yourself in the culture of Colorado Springs.
Also, it’s extremely easy to get to as it’s only about an hour and a half maximum away from the Denver International Airport to get to the area, and most of the properties are only 20 minutes away from the nearby Colorado Springs Airport. You can’t go wrong at any of these resorts, and we hope you enjoy the best of what Colorado Springs has to offer.
