The Match: A closer look at Moonlight Basin
Known for its incredible array of outdoor experiences, Moonlight Basin will become the center of the golf — and NFL — world on July 6 as it hosts “The Match” that will pit Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady against Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers.
Arguably the crowning jewel of Big Sky, Mont., Moonlight Basin will challenge both the pros and amateurs, with the course stretching to 8,000 yards at 7,500 feet of elevation.
The track is highlighted by the par-5 17th hole, where 777 yards stand between tee and hole — a yardage that will challenge even the PGA Tour’s longest hitter in DeChambeau.
A Jack Nicklaus creation
The Jack Nicklaus design encompasses the awe-inspiring wildnerness on the sprawling property — a private experience that Nicklaus himself considers to be one of the most beautiful courses he has ever designed.
The resort doubles as a skiing destination, while also featuring the benefits of Yellowstone Park, including iconic hiking trails and plenty of fly-fishing to go around.
Accommodations range from two-bedroom ski homes to six-bedroom lodges, perfect for an intimate trip with family or a once-in-a-lifetime buddy trip — but, remember, it’s private, so either you have to buy in or know someone.
Moonlight Basin prides itself on its connection to the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, as well as providing migration routes and habitat for wildlife.
As for the golf on July 6, this is Mickelson’s fourth time on the made-for-TV, match-play contest, debuting when he beat Tiger Woods in a 1-on-1 match. The two would return a short time later, this time with partners in tow, with Woods winning with Peyton Manning over Mickelson and Brady.
Mickelson would move to 2-1 in the contest when he paired with Charles Barkley, as they defeated Manning and NBA superstar Stephen Curry.
The Match on July 6, 2021, can be seen on TNT at 5 p.m. ET.
